Things to do
Nearby
Spend some time on one of the many sandy beaches of Lake Michigan.
Silver Lake Sand Dunes are just 15 minutes north of the venue. Within 20 minutes, there’s also a smattering of small markets and wineries (two of our favorites are Fox Barn and Cherry Point.)
Pentwater, a quaint Michigan village with a few shops and a lovely beach, is about 30 minutes north.
The larger Ludington State Park (north) and Grand Haven State Park (south) are both within an hour of the venue (if you opt for GH— make sure to stop for a Pronto Pup!)
A Bit Further
Grand Rapids is beer city, USA! There’s plenty of great breweries to choose from, but our favorites are Vivant, New Holland, and Founders. Also worth a stop are the GRAM and Fredrick Meijer Gardens, and the city’s public art contest ArtPrize will begin its preview week this weekend as well.
Traverse City is another worthwhile Michigan destination if you’re up for the distance. Home to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and a burgeoning wine country, with favorites such as Chateau Chantal and Mari Vineyards, and more outdoor recreational attractions than we can list.
Statewide
If you have more than just the weekend…
Saugatuck is Zoë’s favorite beach town.
Nick’s favorite Detroit area restaurant is Oak and Reel, but the newly reopened Book Tower has some great options too.
And finally, we’d be remiss not to mention the infamously horse-powered Mackinac Island, as well as the state’s scenic upper peninsula— home to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Lake of the Clouds in the Porcupine Mountains, and Nick’s favorite city Marquette. You may just need to make a second trip!
